Driftwood Brewery Gary Lindsay says the last thing local breweries want to do is pass the increased costs down the line. “Consumers seem pretty set on pricing, and anything where we say we’re passing it along, consumers tend to look for something else to grab,” he says.
Late Thursday afternoon B.C. Minister of Agriculture and Food Lana Popham released a statement to CHEK News, saying:
“Many British Columbians, myself included, love local craft beer. These breweries are a valued and respected part of our communities. This is a challenging time for many craft brewers because of supply chain issues caused by the U.S. tariffs, increased competition, rising costs and a recent downward trend in consumption. We recognize the concerns raised by the BC Craft Brewers Guild and are looking into the current beer markup structure to ensure it reflects today’s business conditions. We will continue to work closely with the Guild to support the long-term viability of the sector.”
